Doctor Goodwin is a $2.50, “healthy” Dr. Pepper clone from Olipop. It’s got 45 calories, lower sugar than a regular soda, and fiber for pooping. There are also fiber-adjacent prebiotics, promoted as good for your “microbiome,” although the FDA has not, last I checked, recognized any particular food product for its “gut health” claims.

Real Dr. Pepper claims 23 flavors, but the main ones are cherry and almond (the flavor of maraschino cherries). Doctor Goodwin tastes more like a cherry fruit punch with hints of air freshener and, I swear, caramel corn. Famously, Dr. Pepper has denied the rumor that it contains prune juice, but Doctor Goodwin has both prune and plum concentrates.

About a week ago, just before Halloween, I talked about new foods for the nighttime radio show “A Corporate Time with Tom and Dan” (WTKS 104.1) as well as the video live stream that goes out when they record the show (www.tomanddan.com). We talked about the new Carmella Creeper breakfast cereal, a mystery Fanta flavor that dyes your tongue black, Mambo Sauce and Sweet and Spicy Jam from McDonald’s, a Salt & Straw ice cream made with chocolate-covered crickets and grubworm brittle, and the reject Jelly Bellys called Belly Flops. I’d been wanting to try one of these “expert” segments for a while, something you can definitely have fun with while also sharing some real information about what’s new and unusual at the supermarket.

I learned today that your friendly neighborhood Cracker Barrel just might be making some kinds of pancakes you can’t get by sitting down and ordering while playing with that triangle golf tee game. You have to order these (not really) secret flapjacks for home delivery through Uber Eats or DoorDash or Grubhub. Cracker Barrel calls their delivery menu — The Pancake Kitchen.

Just this week, Pancake Kitchen by Cracker Barrel announced two new menu items for home delivery, including the one on the picture right above this, the one I put in the title  – bacon, egg, and cheese pancake tacos! An order is two buttermilk pancakes, each folded and filled with shredded Colby, bacon, and an over and hard fried egg. You get a side of maple syrup for dipping like breakfast birria. For a limited time, you can also get blueberry pancakes layered with cream cheese cheesecake filling, topped with fresh blueberries and blueberry syrup.

I picked these up at the supermarket because they were Christmasy and under two dollars. They seem like the kind of candy that your grandma would put out in a dish for the holidays and let them get dusty. It’s just a round pellet of Tootsie Roll with a sugary coating. You’d think it would be hard to mess up … but I don’t like them.

The account just reached 10,000 followers by digging up photos of supermarket foods from the 1970’s and 1980’s (and beyond) that faded away. From Fruitopia to Screaming Yellow Zonkers to Kellogg’s Product 19 cereal, Discontinued Foods will spark memories of foods you haven’t eaten for decades. Which brings me to Pillsbury Wiener Wraps.
