’90s Hits You Never Hear Today

Remember Blessid Union of Souls and “I Believe?”

I’m linking out to the version of the “I Believe” video that uses the original album track. Until writing this, I didn’t realize until there was a radio edit. That version has the lyric “One day, daddy’s gonna find out she’s in love with a brother from the streets.” On the album, it’s not “brother.”

How many Top 40 bands do you know that got their name from an episode of “M*A*S*H*?” I used to have a clip here, but it keeps getting pulled down, so go to Hulu and watch Season 3, Episode 18, “House Arrest.” Jump ahead to around 7:00 to hear Frank Burns say it.

So, what’s BUoS been up to lately? Over the years, they got on the soundtrack for “Pokémon: The First Movie” and “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls,” recorded a couple songs for a charity CD about the Cincinnati Reds (the band’s from Ohio), and became a contemporary Christian act. They still tour, but singer Eliot Sloan is the only original member these days.
